“Revolutionary Technology”….This is the first term I would like to state about Digital Film technology. It has been more than ten years since Digital Technology hit the working culture of television industry but use of Digital Cinematography worldwide for FILMS has come into existence in past seven years. Though Digital Cinematography has been executed partially in India too for film productions but with the launch of “RED ONE”, India has got a low cost solution in film production. Red One Digital Cinema camera is capable of yielding result of 4K resolution, as good as 35mm film format camera. Digital Cinematography Camera has been often misunderstood with Digital Camcorders used for television. Critically stating, results of Digital Camcorders used for television (which is technically called Video) and Digital Cinematography cameras for Feature Films are marginally different. With the introduction of Digital Projection System, it has become very easy to shoot a film with Digital Technology, Edit with Digital technology and Exhibit the film with the same. It reduces the expense and broadens the possibilities for Special effects. My personal experience as Director of Photography and editor of “Namah Shivaya Shantaya” was very enthusiastic because I had liberty of creativity. The Director Abhijeet Kumar and I decided to go for retakes until we achieved the desired result and it was just because of Digital Technology as we did not have to fight with any shortfall of stocks (Reels). Red One shoots and saves footage into a hard disk and later on back up is taken into another storage system called RAID. This is how with the use of Digital Technology, one can edit the film immediately after shooting as there is no issue to process the reel. I would really like to appreciate The Director Abhijeet Kumar for bringing Digital Cinematography into India with his latest film “Namah Shivaya Shantaya”. Eventually I have been first Cinematographer and Editor in India of a full length feature film shot on Red One Digital Cinema and “Namah Shivaya Shantaya” has become first feature film in Asia to be shot with this camera & first Digital Cinema of India to be screened at world biggest film festival “Cannes Film Festival, France 2009”.
New Addition: Canon 5D Mark 2
Film production has gone quite affordable to very low budget producers. The only things a good film takes now is creativity with courage to move ahead. With invasion of Canon 5D Mark 2, film / ad production has gone unbelievably cheap and fast. I assure readers for quality result. Just plan for 5D shoot and save the cost and time of production remarkably low from traditional way of execution.
